ODM leader Raila Odinga on Wednesday paid his last respects to Kenya’s second President the late Mzee Daniel Arap Moi in style.

Speaking at Kabarak during Mzee Moi’s funeral service, Odinga started his speech by looking back at his interactions with the former Head of State, saying his late father Jaramogi Oginga Odinga described Mzee Moi as a giraffe, a man who can see the future.

“Moi could predict what was going to happen,” he said.

Odinga said that Mzee Moi had to be given the right send-off like the hero he was and it was at this point that he asked for his black fly-whisk.

The ODM leader then dedicated a song to the late Mzee Moi before chanting ‘Jowi Jowi Jowi’ which in Luo loosely translates to praises of a courageous and powerful man who has rested.

Odinga also looked back at his previous visits to Kabarak saying the first handshake was between him and the late Mzee Moi.

Odinga revealed that he went with the late Joab Omino to Mzee Moi’s residence and after a long discussion, they buried the hatchet and forgave each other.

On political dynasties, Odinga was quick to dispel talk that Kenya was being run by dynasties, saying Mzee Moi came from a humble background and made a name for himself.

“He came from poverty just the way Jaramogi came from poverty. Jomo Kenyatta also came from poverty.

“Moi struggled…we are all Kenyans. Why should some people think they are more entitled to things in this country than others?” he asked.

Adding: “Gideon has a right like any other Kenyan to vie for any seat he wants.” <amp-iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/7-fmbqg_Nzk?start=550" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture" allowfullscreen=""></amp-iframe>
