Veteran actress Mary Khavere, popularly known as Mama Kayai on Saturday, February 8, 2020, recounted her memory of former President Daniel Moi.

Speaking exclusively to KTN News, the actress described Moi as a person who dedicated his time as President to unite Kenyans.

She narrated that the former President loved and promoted art and credited him for ensuring that the Vitimbi crew had a platform to show their talents.

Vitimbi was a popular television series that aired in Kenyan televisions in the late 90’s and early 2000’s.

Khavere explained that the President was a huge fan of the late Mzee Ojwang’ who co-starred alongside her in the TV series.

“Tuko kwa payroll sababu ya Mzee Moi, kwa hivyo Mzee Moi siwezi kumsahau ka maisha yangu”

Loosely translates to “I am on the payroll courtesy of Moi, for that reason, I will never forget him in my life”.

She went ahead to give an account of a time when Moi’s spokesperson called for them to help the former President calm his temper.

She stated that, on the sight of Mzee Ojwang, the President would become cheerful.

“Nakumbuka siku moja tulikuja kuchukuliwa KBC na bwana Lee Njiru akasema tunatakikana State House, twendeni tukamchekeshe ndio hasira iishe”

“I remember a time we were picked from KBC by Lee Njiru who said we were needed at the State House to make the President laugh” translates her statement.

She further advised the current generation of Kenyan leaders to follow the example set by the former President.
