Elgeyo Marakwet Senator Kipchumba Murkomen on Wednesday described Kenya’s second President the late Daniel Toroitich arap Moi as a man who defined the history of the country.
Speaking at Kabarnet Gardens during a visit together with various leaders from the Senate, Murkomen also commended Mzee Moi for his efforts to unite Kenyans through his Nyayo philosophy of Peace, Love and Unity.
“Together with my colleagues in Parliament, we visited the family of HE President D.T Arap Moi to pray and share words of comfort as we celebrate the life of a man who defined the history of our country in many ways and impacted many lives.
“May he rest in eternal peace,” he said.
Earlier, Siaya Senator James Orengo described the late Mzee Moi as a leader who made the right decisions at the right time.
"You need to paint Moi's legacy with a big brush and then you will see the substantial things he did to education,” he said.
On Wednesday employees of The Standard Group also honoured the late President Daniel Moi in a special way.
In the event, Standard Group CEO Orlando Lyomu described the late Moi as a statesman who will be remembered for several things, key among them being promoting patriotism.
"We are here to celebrate the life of the former president; this is a statesman who did a lot for this country but most specifically for this institution because there is a certain connection that is special.
"When someone has touched so many lives, when someone has been blessed with such a long life, when an impact has gone beyond the borders, you do not mourn their passing but celebrate their life and their children," he remarked.
