Machakos County Governor Alfred Mutua on Thursday, December 26, 2019, called on two senior members from the eastern region to call time on their political careers before it’s too late.

Referring to former Vice President (VP) Kalonzo Musyoka and former Machakos Senator Johnson Muthama, the Governor said that it would be a smart move for them to get out of politics.

"Leaders who are expired, leaders who have nothing to offer to our people should quit while they are ahead," he said.

Governor Mutua used the example of football legend Pele and stated that the iconic footballer retired at his peak.

The governor then declared himself as the leader who will lead the Kamba community to the presidency.

"Our people are tired of being on the sidelines. I am ready to lead the Kamba community to Statehouse whereas Hon. Kalonzo wants us to add on to a Uhuru 2022 strategy and Hon. Muthama wants to con us towards a Ruto 2022 strategy, he stated.

In the press briefing, Mutua accused Muthama of waging the Kamba community to Deputy President William Ruto’s camp.

He added that both Muthama and Kalonzo have sealed their fate to be supporters of others with no intention of leading the community to the statehouse.

“Muthama, on the other hand, has also been busy waging the Kamba community to Deputy President William Ruto so that the Kamba voters become just supporters of others”

“These two leaders do not speak for the Kamba community but for themselves and their own personal interests," said the Governor.
