Eastmatt supervisor who assaulted female cashier pleads not-guilty

Ibrahim Taraiya, the man seen in a viral video assaulting a female cashier pleaded not guilty on Monday, November 25, 2019.

Appearing before a Kajiado Court, the suspect, was, among other charges, accused of threatening the teller.

“Prosecution led by Solomon Njeru told the court that Ibrahim has been threatening Sarah Atieno, the teller he is accused of assaulting” tweeted the office of the DPP.

The Prosecution team led by Solomon Njeru said that the suspect might interfere with witnesses hence should be denied bail.

It further added that Taraiya was a flight risk as he had earlier attempted to flee to Tanzania.

“In opposing bail, Njeru added that Ibrahim might interfere with witnesses & was a flight risk as he had attempted crossing over to Tanzania” Stated the office of the DPP.

The Directorate of Public Prosecutions (DPP) on Saturday, November 23, 2019, ordered the arrest of the suspect, a day after the video went viral.

Through a statement, Eastmatt Supermarket acknowledged that Taraiya was their employee and that he had been suspended following the incident.

The case will be mentioned on December 6, 2019.

Bail terms will be reviewed on the same date.
