World marathon record holder Eliud Kipchoge was on Sunday, October 20, 2019 honoured with the Elder of the Order of the Golden Heart of Kenya (E.G.H) award.

President Uhuru Kenyatta said that the athlete inspired Kenyans and the world that no human effort is futile.

“Eliud Kipchoge who is alive and here with us has also inspired the world that no human effort is futile, that we can dream and make our dreams a possibility”

“He has demonstrated that through integrity, hard work and commitment to excellence nothing is out of reach” said the president.

This came after the marathon runner successfully ran a 42Km marathon in less than two hours to make history.

“Our very own Eliud Kipchoge who is here with us today has gone beyond the world title he bagged in 2018 and has further achieved the previous unthinkable feat of being the first human being to run the marathon distance in less than two hours” he added.

The president described Kipchoge as a living legend and added that his achievement should remind Kenyans not to limit themselves to the ordinary.

“In honor of all the heroes past, present and future I wish to invite and to recognize Eliud Kipchoge with the Elder of the Order of golden heart” concluded the president.
