One person died on Tuesday, October 8 morning in a grisly road accident at Kenyenya Market in Kisii County.

This happened after a saloon car he was driving collided head on with a lorry as he was trying to join the Kenyenya – Mogonga road from the Riokindo – Kenyenya road.

According to witnesses, the lorry was coming from Mogonga when it knocked the saloon car at the intersection.

The deceased man, Griffins Ombaso was rushed to Kenyenya Sub County hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

The lorry driver fled the scene and went to the Kenyenya Police Station after he saw that the angry mob planned to lynch him.

He is in police custody as investigations commence.

According to the recently published World Health Organisation (WHO) Global Status Report Between 3000 and 13 000 Kenyans lose their lives in road traffic crashes every year.

The majority of these people are pedestrians, motorcyclists, and cyclists, nearly one-third of deaths are among passengers, many of whom are killed in unsafe forms of public transportation.
