Elgeyo Marakwet Senator Kipchumba Murkomen on Thursday responded to Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria who asked him to step aside over ethnic utterances in the Kimwarer Dam scandal.

Through a tweet, the Senate Majority leader maintained that President Uhuru Kenyatta was given a misleading report and described the committee of experts as a ‘funeral committee.’

“Despite insults from Moses Kuria I remain adamant that the so called Tech Committee have failed the President and people of Kenya and EMC on Arror and Kimwarer Dams.

“That wasn’t a committee of experts but a funeral committee formed 2 kill the projects. Even the scaling down of Arror is a white lie,” said Murkomen.

He added that the only winner in the cancellation of the dams is CMC Di Ravenna who will reap billions of money from breach of contract.

“I can’t watch the head of state misadvised and keep quiet. Kenyans will remember me for this when the noise is over and the dust settles,” he remarked.

Murkomen argued that the composition of the technical committee did not reflect ethnic and regional balance.

Earlier, Kuria alleged that Murkomen had turned the matter into an ethnic battle and said his sentiments might instill fear in some communities.

“We cannot do things the same way and expect different results. Murkomen might be excited but let him not forget the long distance the country has moved to achieve the unity we experience today,” Kuria said.

“Such statements raise a lot of fears…what if Murkomen will be in the team that forms the next government? Doesn’t he think that such statements can subject communities to fear?” asked Kuria.
