Anerlisa Muigai, daughter of Keroche Breweries owners Tabitha Karanja and Joseph Karanja, on Friday surprised her mum with a birthday party.

Despite the recent troubles that have rocked the family, Anerlisa took time to visit her parents in the company of her fiancé Ben Pol.

The two presented Tabitha with a bouquet of flowers and cake as they celebrated her birthday before she left for work.

“In the mix of everything, I remembered today is my mother's birthday and Ben and I decided to surprise and cheer her up before she went to work this morning.

“Happy Birthday Mum, we love you and may God bless you always,” she wrote.

The Karanjas were accused of unlawfully making incorrect statements of their excise duty returns between February 2015 and January 2016, which in turn reduced their company’s tax liability by Sh1.8 million.

The also faced a second count of making incorrect excise tax for February 2016 and January 2017, amounting to Sh3.1 billion.

Mr Karanja was granted Sh5 million bond or Sh 2 million cash bail and given a week to pay, while the Tabitha was granted Sh10 million cash bail or Sh15 million bond.

Recently, Anerlisa penned a letter to President Uhuru Kenyatta asking him to intervene following the arrest of her parents.

Through a post on her Facebook page, she requested the Head of State to protect local entrepreneurs since they face many challenges in their businesses.
