A woman in Nairobi’s Kasarani area is fearing for her life after CCTV footage showed police officers breaking into her bar and Mpesa shop, stealing a phone and some money.

Wanjiru Kariuki stated that the incident happened on Saturday, August 24, 2019, when she heard a loud bang on her door.

“They banged the door several times and I immediately knew that they were not census enumerators,” said Wanjiru.

The officers then forced their way inside and in a clip seen by Ureport, one of them can be seen picking a phone that was being charged and putting it in his pocket.

Mercy Silantoi, a bar attendant, revealed that one of the officers slapped her for refusing to open the door.

Wanjiru and Silantoi claimed that the police stated that they were looking for notorious thugs who were hiding in the area.

Further, Wanjiru said that she is being targeted because she refused to part with a Sh1000 fee that the officers demand every month from business owners in the area.

She added that despite reporting the matter, she has been receiving threats and is contemplating leaving the area because the officers have vowed to make her stay miserable.
