Brian Abonyo, son of the late Bomet Governor Joyce Laboso, on Friday revealed that he had been living in Australia for close to 15 years but is glad he came back home to be with his mum during her last days.

Speaking during Laboso’s funeral service in Bomet, Brian stated that his mum suffered so much in the past few months and at some point they thought it is better to let her rest, free from all the pain.

“I have been living in Australia for about 15 years and in December 2018 I made the decision to come back home.

“What I didn’t know was that mum was sick. I thank God for spending the last seven months with mum,” he said.

“Mum was a peacemaker. She loved everybody. Even when people would abuse her and her family she would not retaliate,” added Brian.

Laboso’s husband Edwin Abonyo, on his part, was thankful to all those who helped the governor during her last days and he spoke of the numerous consultations he had with doctors to save Laboso’s life.

Abonyo stated that his wife was diagnosed with colon cancer in 1991 but was treated.

In 2018 she fell ill again and this time it was serious. Chemotherapy and radiotherapy took a toll on her and her health deteriorated.

He added that doctors in India were hopeful of getting rid of the cancerous cells but even after a period of medication, Laboso’s health did not improve.

They then talked to cancer experts in the UK but they also could not save Laboso’s life and advised them to come back home.

It is at this point that he knew Laboso’s time was fast approaching.

On Monday this week, before Laboso’s last breath, a member of the clergy prayed for the governor at the Nairobi Hospital and applied anointing oil on her. Twenty minutes later, she rested. View this post on Instagram
