While Kenyans danced and made merry following Harambee Stars’ 3-2 win over neighbours Tanzania in the Africa Cup of Nations, Taifa Stars coach and former Nigerian star Emmanuel Amunike was not impressed with how his side played.

Speaking after the defeat, Amunike gave a brutally honest analysis of what he saw and admitted that Tanzania is not in a position to compete just yet.

He lamented the mistakes his players made and revealed that despite working on several routines in training, the players still erred.

His side lost the lead twice and he bashed them for lacking the know-how of managing a game.

"If you do not know how to manage your game, you pay the price. There were a lot of crazy things going on and we committed a lot of mistakes. Our positioning was wrong, our marking was wrong."

Commenting on Kenya’s second goal, Amunike said: "That is something we have practised over and over again... but players are players.

“As a coach you stand on the sidelines and you are helpless... there is no character in the team. We lack the experience.”

He added: “It's an eye opener for Tanzanian football – the truth is we are not in a position to compete."

Kenya twice came from behind to claim three points courtesy of two goals by Michael Olunga and a header by midfielder Johanna Omolo.

In the last round of Group C matches, Tanzania will face Algeria while Kenya will lock horns with Senegal.
