Deputy President William Ruto on Thursday morning joined Kenyans in congratulating Harambee Stars following their 3-2 win over Tanzania in the Africa Cup of Nations.

Through a statement on Twitter, the DP commended the players for hoisting Kenya’s flag high and wished them well in their next match against Senegal.

“Hearty congratulations to #HarambeeStars for beating Tanzania 3-2 and putting Kenya in contention for qualifying for the round of 16 at the #AFCON2019.

“All the best as you prepare for the Senegal decider. Well in,” he wrote.

Though some netizens echoed similar sentiments, others bashed him for being part of a government that had done little to take Kenyan football to the next level.

Ruto was put on the spot for not fulfilling the promise of building nine stadia in the country.

Kevin Njuru: They could be doing better with the nine stadiums.

Somo Ibra: First thing first, where are the 9 stadiums you promised will completed in 3 months? Not to mention the 50 M you promised for qualification.

Others also asked the DP to visit the team in Egypt as it will go a long way in motivating them as they aim to reach the round of 16 in the tournament.

Jokins Simiyu: They deserve it sir make time visit them in Cairo they will be motivated.

Don Miguel: Your excellency our national team players have made us http://proud.It  will boost their moral if you joined them in their next match against Senegal.bravo Harambee stars!

Following the win, Kenya sits third Group C behind Algeria and Senegal and a point in their last match will see them qualify for the knockouts.
