Former Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale landed himself in trouble after making a distasteful remark following Kenya’s loss to Algeria in the Africa Cup of Nations on Sunday evening.

Through a post on Twitter, the politician stated that Harambee Stars were flat and lacked creativity, calling them ‘bure kabisa.’

“Algeria 2-0 Kenya. Harambee Stars displayed nothing but an amazing total lack of attacking ideas in this match which they completed without a single shot on target!

“Bure kabisa!” he wrote.

Netizens bashed him for attacking the players and some asked him to stick to bullfighting.

Mutahi Muriithi: And in your many years in power circles, what have you done about the national football team? Wewe ndiye bure kabisa.

Onyango Otieno: We all know that the real target of your outburst is the man who is not in uniform... Boni, you are so petty these days. What happened to the Bull fighter I used to admire? It's really hard reconciling the pictures of you in my memory and the live picture of you here...

Ben: Even if #HarambeeStars don't score or lose all the games,we will stand with them. Their game was awful but this are our boys we love our Team no matter what happens.

Omonyo: For #HarambeeStars to compete meaningfully in tournaments such as the #AFCON2019 there has to be deliberate design of systems to guarantee success. 1. Professionalize football in Kenya, 2. Fund the Sport and its Activities and 3. Play many meaningful friendlies.

Atieno Okeyo: As a father and leader, this is the encouragement you can give our youth who qualified to go and represent us internationally?

In contrast, former Tanzania President Jakaya Kikwete was full of praise for Tanzanian national team despite their loss to Senegal.

Kikwete urged Taifa Stars to dust themselves and move on to the next match since they still have two games to go and anything is possible.

“Kuteleza si kuanguka, hakuna lisilowezekana, bado mechi 2 mbele. Songa mbele #TaifaStars,” he wrote.
