Former Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale on Sunday rubbished the move by former Cabinet Secretary for Sports Rashid Echesa to ditch DP Ruto for ANC party leader Musalia Mudavadi.
Khalwale, who joined jubilee party barely two weeks ago, took to his Facebook account to claim that the move by the former sports CS was inspired by his recent sacking.
“Political power, like cannabis Sativa (bangi), is addictive & when suddenly withdrawn can have severe withdrawal effects. The abrupt firing of former C/S Rashid Echesa is the ONLY reason for his so-called ditching of William Ruto. Classical attention seeking behaviour! I was here in 2013, we wish you well our son,” wrote Khalwale on his Facebook page.
When shifting allegiance on Sunday during a burial at Mung'ang'a village in Mumias East, Echesa said time was nigh to rally the Luhya community behind Musalia Mudavadi, in a bid to ensure the community clinches the country’s top seat.
“Our leader Musalia Mudavadi, if it is doing favour you have done it enough. If it’s supporting the Nyanza people you have done it enough. It is time you get out of that camp. We promise you we will seek coalitions for you that will see you clinch the presidency,” said Echesa.
Echesa, who has been DP Ruto’s ardent supporter buried the hatchet with the Kakamega Senator Cleophas Malala who has been his fierce opponent. The two leaders pledged to work together in fostering the youthful agenda of Kakamega County.
The move will seemingly puncture Ruto’s movement in the county as he is only left with Mumias East MP Benjamin Washiali and the former Senator as his key point men in the county.
With Washiali having declared to support Khalwale in his desire to be the county boss, the new battle line drawn by Echesa is ostensibly going to make the County’s political drums much louder in the coming days.
