Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Waititu has distanced his daughter from graft following allegations that she has millions in her account.

Speaking during a function in Trans Nzoia County, Waititu stated some leaders were out to tarnish his name by spreading malicious rumours about him.

Further, he denied having 50 bank accounts and affirmed that he will support Deputy President William Ruto in the 2022 General Election.

“They are lying to people on Facebook that my daughters have millions in their accounts and that I have over 50 bank accounts, but all those are lies,” he said.

The governor stated that he is being targeted for working closely with DP Ruto but would not relent.

“No, I cannot follow Raila Odinga by force, I only fear God and hot porridge in this world, only that,” he commented.

Last week, the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) revealed that the probe against Waititu had stretched to his immediate family members.

EACC Spokesman Yassin Amaro said the governor’s immediate family, including his two daughters, were at the centre of the investigations.

One is a pediatrician at a city hospital while the other is a student at a private university. The investigators have been trying to establish the source of the huge amounts of cash in their bank accounts.

The governor is accused of amassing questionable wealth since he assumed office late 2017.

“All the 14 people including the Governor are persons of interest. We are probing any matter linked to financial impropriety, and irregular procurement dealings. We are still on the matter and checking on the movements of cash and property,” said Amaro.
