Kenyans react after woman gets 30-year sentence for trafficking bhang worth Sh2800

Kenyans on Twitter (KOT) were enraged after a Nyeri court sentenced a woman to 30 years in prison for trafficking bhang worth Sh2820.

Rose Wanjiru is said to have committed the offence in 2014 and was positively identified by key witnesses.

According to the magistrate, the prosecution had proved the case beyond reasonable doubt and the accused was not given an option of fine.

Online, netizens lamented the harsh penalty dealt on the woman, some saying that the system only punishes the poor while the rich get away with affordable fines.

Olekishoyian: “Why jail for 30yrs for only bhang and kuna watu wanaiba mamilioni ya pesa na hawashikwi thats not ju anatafutia watoto wake chakula.”

Ken Kajei: “Very uncalled for and quite unnecessary!”

Owen Hinga: “This is inhuman; it is time to do away with our Judiciary.”

Collins Adoka: “Some judges are mad.......30yrs for kshs 2,000 only.....yet some people are realised on bond or cashbill after stealling billion ........shame on you.”

Jim Langat: “Noooo... 2000??this should be one week.”

Uhurunomics: “Actually it should not even be Custodial...She should be asked to Clean the Court room for One week.”

Nafula Brendah: “What a country! What a judgement!”
