The registration period for Huduma Namba ends on May 18 and as expected, Kenyans are rushing to beat the deadline.

For the past few days, long queues have been spotted at various registration centres after Interior CS Fred Matiang’i stated that the period will not be extended.

It has now emerged that some unscrupulous agents are taking advantage of the rush to ask Kenyans for money to speed up the process.

In a video seen by Ureport, one agent is seen asking for Sh300 per person as she claims the machines are faulty and she has to go for a new one.

The lady in the clip further assures those waiting to register that they will not have to queue once they part with the amount.

Kenyans online quickly weighed in on the matter and condemned the incident, calling for arrests to be made.

Earlier this week CS Matiang’i noted that over 30 million Kenyans had already registered for Huduma Namba and it would be costly to extend the process since the agents are being paid Sh1000 per day.

“So far 31 million Kenyans have registered for Huduma Namba which is 65 per cent of our projected population in the country in terms of registration.

“Kenyans need to know that we are paying those conducting this exercise Sh1000 a day and in case we extend by a day then it means we are going to spend a little more money,” said Matiangi.

He went on to ask those who had not registered for the Huduma Namba to do so as it is for their own benefit.

“We began another phase of registration this week that addresses Kenyans in the Diaspora. We have distributed a total of 154 KIEMS kits in 54 missions around the world,” added Matiangi.

Kenyans in Diaspora will have until June 20, 2019 to register.
