A mum, allegedly killed by her nine-year-old son, feared she was raising the next serial killer just months before her death, her family has said.

Pauline Randol was reportedly shot dead by her young adopted son at their home in Michigan, US, early on Monday morning.

The schoolboy was charged with murder the following day.

Now Randol's grieving daughter has spoken of her brother's mental health problems.

Harley Martin told 24 Hour News 8 that the boy, who had a rough upbringing and was adopted by the Randol family three years ago, had "just recently started snapping".

"Mum told her doctor one time she was so scared she was raising the next serial killer," she said.

If her mother had received the help she was after, the tragedy would not have happened, Randol's other daughter Reagan Martin claimed.

"She took him in to care for him as her own," she told Detroit News.

"She had been trying to reach out for help by his family doctor...who blamed her for (these) issues."

According to the 23-year-old, her mum had been trying to get help for her son before her death.

"She eventually got an appointment…but that was supposed to be for Tuesday, and it was too late," Reagan added.

But Reagan said her brother was a "sweet, caring young man" who "loved his mum".

She says his biological mother used drugs during her pregnancy with the boy.

According to court documents the boy had threatened a female classmate last year.
