Didge, a Kenyan radio presenter at Homeboyz Radio, has been suspended indefinitely over remarks he made about the killing of Moi University student Ivy Wangechi.

According to an official statement by the station, the remarks were made on April 9, 2019, during the Mtaani Show — a show that focuses on hard-hitting views of day to day occurrences in the country.

“After reviewing the show recording we have found the comments made to be in extremely poor taste and apologize without reservation.

“We have removed the show from the schedule pending further internal investigation. The presenter in question has also been immediately suspended by the station,” read the statement in part.

Listeners of the show also took to Twitter to express their rage and said that it was disrespectful of the presenter to make fun of the deceased.

“Wah, it really beats me how inhuman people are out here,” said one netizen.

Pauline Muchiri: “Very insensitive!!nothing funny about an innocent person being hacked to death!!”

Wise Oldowl: “hi,@HomeboyzRadio,please don't just suspend him, expel him for good. Suppose it happened to his sister or daughter or any of his relatives for that matter, would he still be talking stupid stuff.

Wangechi was killed by Naftali Kinuthia who used an axe to hack her outside the Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital in Eldoret.

Online, there were different versions of the story but police are yet to establish the motive of the murder.

Homeboyz further stated that it will take the necessary steps to ensure such lapses do not happen again.

“We are cognizant of our responsibility as broadcasters which is why we are taking these measures.

“Once again we apologise to our listeners and the wider community as a whole. We remain committed to providing cutting edge content without offence,” read the statement signed by the station’s Group Managing Director.
