Gladys Wanja, a street mother in Nairobi’s CBD, has revealed that her daughter, two-year-old Gift Wanjiku, was lured by a woman along Latema Road over the weekend and she has not seen her since.

Speaking to a local TV station, Wanja stated that she is familiar with the suspect because she often bought milk for Wanjiku and at one point asked if she could adopt her.

The lady also asked Wanja to tag along her daughter and pay her a visit at her home in Uthiru.

“Juzi kuna mama alikuja akaniambia nimuuzie mtoto, nikakataa. Sasa leo mahali mimi huweka huyu mtoto amekuja akamchukua.

“Nilimzaa na operation na ni operation ya tatu kwa hivyo siwezi zaa tena. Sijui nitatoa wapi mtoto mwengine,” said a teary Wanja.

(The other day a woman came to me asking to buy my daughter but I refused. Today she came and picked her from where I usually leave her. I gave birth through caesarian section and it was the third operation so I cannot give birth again.)

The widow has now appealed to the lady to give her back her daughter since she is all she has.

“Kama unaniskiza tafadhali rudisha mtoto wangu…tafadhali…”

According to her, she reported the matter to police but they have not offered her assistance because the toddler does not own a mobile phone so it is almost impossible to trace her whereabouts.
