General Ababu: eloquent politician, accomplished hunter and gatherer
Former Budalang’i MP Ababu ‘Smart’ Namwamba is known for his love of fine things in life. Be it flashy cars, exotic holidays, fine dining or fashionable dressing.
The eloquent lawyer is also known for his love of beautiful, lithe young women, whom he unapologetically shows off to the world, like an excited young boy with a new toy. And like all toys, he regularly upgrades them with newer, fresher, younger and prettier models.
Ababu set tongues wagging over the weekend after he posed four pictures, intimately holding an unknown young woman during a party. The pictures were posted on his social media accounts and Kenyans immediately set the internet ablaze, questioning whom the new woman in Ababu’s life was.
The Nairobian can authoritatively reveal that the lass, Janet Angatia, is from Luanda, Vihiga County, who sat her Fourth Form two years ago. Interestingly, Janet is the younger sister of Luciana Andafu, who has been Ababu’s girlfriend since he split from his wife, Prisca.
Ababu, Chief Administrative Secretary (CAS) in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs broke up with his wife in 2018. The biggest chink in their marital armour was not the two women he was dating at the time, Luciana and Miss Tourism Busia County finalist Paula Ann Machio, but Ababu’s continued relationship with his wife’s niece, Cecilia Moraa, who was partaking of illicit marital bounty with the politician.
Even after elders reportedly convened a meeting and resolved the matter, Ababu is said to have continued flirting with Moraa, prompting Prisca to leave their matrimonial home in early May 2018. When she returned in late June to check on the children, she found Moraa still pitching tent in the home. Moraa, who had even moved into Ababu’s house was the de facto wife, having overthrown her aunt from Ababu’s heart, house and marital bed. Prisca called it quits and permanently moved out. But before he broke up with Prisca, stories abound of his affair with Mary Quinter Odilo, one of his campaign managers. Mary strongly denied being the politician’s secret lover since his wife, Prisca Mwaro, is her aunty and close friend. “I am brown, tall and very beautiful, I prefer men who are muscular, tough and capable of defending me,” she told The Nairobian.
Before meeting Prisca, Ababu, known for his wit, eloquence and sharp dressing, was married to his campus sweetheart, a magistrate with whom they had two children. Ababu paid bride price to the jurist’s parents in 2004, but cracks soon emerged around the 2007 General Election. Though elders were called in to reconcile the couple several times, the marriage collapsed in 2009 and Prisca waded in to captain MV Ababu over troubled marital waters. Prisca had just completed high school at St Cecilia Namenye Girls High School when she met Ababu and it was love at first sight. The two went through a whirlwind romance and ended up married, with three children to boot.
After breaking up with Prisca, his wife of six years, Ababu who is in his mid-40s hooked up with 21-year-old Miss Tourism Kenya Busia County 2018 Ann Paula Machio, a student at Technical University of Mombasa. Ironically, Paula was ‘launched’ to the general public at a church service in September 2018. He introduced Paula to the church congregation when he was given the opportunity to address faithful at St Nicholas Catholic Church in Port Victoria. Ababu met Paula in May 2018, during Miss Busia beauty pageant in which she won two things, Sh75,000 from the pageant organisers and Ababu’s heart.
In the same year, as the politician was living in Nairobi with the beauty queen, another lover, Luciana Andafu, was tucked away in his palatial Budalang’i home. The politician had a perfect arrangement where Luciana, then a student at Moi University, was living at his rural home while Machio stayed in the city with him. Machio got pregnant and was soon out of the picture, with Luciana now steering Ababu’s love train. Machio gave birth in 2019.
Last week, in his characteristic showmanship, Ababu unveiled Janet, but was mum as to the nature of their relationship. Will ‘The General’, as he is popularly known, pitch tent at this new command post or lower the flag and move?
Only time will tell, for Ababu ‘Smart’ is a lawyer and an accomplished politician, hunter and gatherer.
