Wife material: Meet the women MP Jaguar dumped to marry longtime girlfriend in secret
Musician turned politician, Charles Njagua Kanyi (Jaguar), recently paid ruracio (bride price) for his longtime girlfriend Mercy Nyambura on Jamhuri Day, December 12.
The hush-hush ruracio was attended by close family and friends, including fellow politician Fabian Kyule Muli. Dennis Makau, their common friend, commented on Muli’s online posts: “Nice ruracio it was.” According to those who attended, Jaguar and Mercy- the mother of his fourth born- wore matching traditional Kikuyu regalia with attendant accessories.
Besides Nyambura, Jaguar has two other children with Annie Riri, second born daughter Toria and son Jaba. Annie, a very private former employee at Clarion Hotel in Nairobi, doesn’t shy away from sharing photos of their two kids on social media.
Before Nyambura and Annie, Jaguar was in a relationship with Magda Ngima, the mother of his firstborn daughter Tamara. The two, however, broke up after dating for eons.
“Magda and I broke up almost a year ago, I am very happy that she has moved on. We are very good friends and both love and support our daughter,” wrote Jaguar in June 2016, but added he had spotted ‘the one’ and would settled down soon.

Two years later, Magda shared photos of her glamorous white and yellow themed baby shower for her second child with her new man.
She wrote on her online posts: “Having a bulge, you should be proud that you are bringing another human to the world so don’t be shy about it, be extremely grateful for the privilege to create, my baby Tia. A mother’s joy begins when new life is stirring inside, when a tiny heartbeat is heard for the first time and a playful kick reminds her that she is never alone.”
Jaguar, a buff of luxury cars, often shares photos of his children on social media, mostly during their birthdays.
During this year’s Father’s Day, Jaguar wrote: “Being a father is my greatest joy in life. It is also my first and most important job. I celebrate all dads this #FathersDay. To those who fear fatherhood, stop being afraid. God will guide your steps. To those who have abandoned their families, step up, be a man, and take care of your kids. #HappyFathersDay2020.”
Jaguar, previously known for songs such as Kigeugeu, Kioo and Nimetoka mbali, was in 2017 elected MP for Starehe in Nairobi on a Jubilee Party ticket.
