Worshipper denies threatening to cut woman's head for rejecting his love

A woman has sued a male fellow church member for threatening to kill her after she turned him down. Bessy Gacheri Murungi told a Kibera court on August 22 that Joel Mecha Nyagathi had threatened to cut off her head after she refused to fall into his love trap on August 3 at Ngina road in Riruta, Nairobi.
The court heard that Mecha had requested Gacheri to meet him in the Nairobi Central Business District to collect a cheque for church rent. They met and Mecha handed her a Sh10,000 cheque from Equity Bank, which she in turn took to church leadership.
The following day, Mecha sent her Sh1,000 through M-Pesa and later informed her that the money was a token of appreciation for accepting to collect the cheque the previous day, the court was told. A week later, he started making calls to Gacheri late at night. She said the late-night calls made her uncomfortable.
She warned him against calling her at night. A few days later, the man requested her to go to his house as he had something to share with her.
When Gacheri went to the man's house, he told her how much he loved her, saying was the reason he chose her to go and pick up the cheque. Feeling uncomfortable, she turned down his overtures.
Feeling disrespected, Gacheri said she would inform the church to refund his money if that was the case. She then left the house in haste. She later blocked calls from the man, a move that made him label her a swindler.
Having failed to win Gacheri's heart, Mecha started issuing death threats, telling her that he would cut off her head or her child would get lost. Gacheri reported the matter to authorities who started probing the matter and later arrested Mecha.
He denied the accusations in court and was granted cash bail of Sh15,000. The case will be mentioned on September 6.
