Hard rides could lower your sperm count — Gynaecologist
Too much of something is poisonous, they said, and peddling away on a bicycle for too long is no different.
Dr Jane Machira, a gynacologist based at Gynacare, Fortis Suites in Upperhill, Nairobi, warns that long hours on a bike could nuke the male toolbox and lower the sperm count.
“Anything that increases heat below the innerwear including truck or matatu driving has this effect. Low sperm count leads to low sperm production and infertility,” says Machira.
This does not, however affect all men.
“What is curious is, you can meet a bicycle boda boda who rides a bicycle everyday to earn his daily bread yet he has 10 chilren who are his spitting image. How do you explain that?” Machira poses.
On the contrary to whispers, the doc adds, long bicycle riding excercises do not neccesarily affect libido in men, saying suggestiions that hours riding bikes or riding trucks or matatus can cause erectile disfunction(ED) remains an unproven rumour.

Dr Paul Njogu, a urologist, agrees.
“Scientifically it has not been proven that ridining bicycles, or driving matatus or trucks for long hours can cause erectile disfunction. What we know is that this can cause infertility in men,” says Njogu.
