For ages, Sabina Joy, a renowned night club along Moi Avenue has been attracting all kind of talks and even branded ‘petrol’ station where some men check in to pee and have good time with sex workers.
Sometimes last year, during the national census, it was reported the club, which had never shut its doors since the 1982 coup attempt, was closed when the government ordered all bars be closed to allow everyone to be counted in their homes.
Recent reports that Sabina Joy had been selected among bars to be used to test preparedness in combating corona virus, since clubs were closed two months ago, have equally elicited huge debate.
Though the arrangement between bar owners and government has not allowed sale of alcohol, The Nairobian has established that hundreds of men have been visiting the club just to test waters of what is to come.
“Since we opened the doors two weeks ago, more than 100 men have checked in everyday just to see our progress. Others come in to have good times with the girls, though at the moment we serve non-alcoholic drinks but ladies are in ‘plenty,” explained one of the guards.
“Some men, like before, just check in to pee in our washrooms and feed their eyes. Some of the customers here include prominent people, who check in dressed differently to confuse those who might know them. Last week I a spotted a former member of parliament from Rift valley, he is my neighbour at home.”
To comply with directives, the club has erected special hand washing booths, stickers reminding customers to wear masks and maintain social distance as directed by the Ministry of Health in a campaign dubbed ‘Raise the Bar’.
