Condoleeza Rice: How Uhuru, Dr Sally Kosgei negotiated Raila-Kibaki coalition government

Condoleeza Rice, the former US Secretary of State spent Sh42,500 ($500) on grooming her hair every week at her Washington apartment. That is Sh170,000 a month, according to the 2012 book, Gideon's Spies: The Secret History of the Mossad by Gordon Thomas.

Mossad, the Israeli intelligence agency, profiled Condoleeza, whose name was inspired by Italian musical 'Con doleeza', meaning, 'with sweetness'- and noted the following:

Air Force One, America's official Presidential plane had an office for 'Condi', that resembled her Washington office. Besides a king-size bed on the wood-paneled bedroom, the only child who never married and had no children to distract her, requested for gym gear, weights and treadmill on Air Force One. 'Condi' was a fitness freak. The alarm clock that woke her up played bars of Mozart. It was a gift, alongside her wristwatch, from President George W Bush (whom one biographer noted could not differentiate between Pluto and Plato).

A single flight aboard Air Force One - like the one she made to Kenya in 2008 - cost Sh3.4m ($40,000). 'Princess Warrior' had a fetish for Ferragamo boots. A pair cost Sh76,000 ($895).

'Condi', who had an office back mirror so that no hair was out of place, once sent an aide to buy eight Ferragamos. That dented Sh600,000 for the one-time national security advisor in the Bush administration, who started playing the piano at the age of seven. She was the first African-American woman Secretary of State and Provost of Stanford University where she taught political science.

Fact: During the 2008 post-poll chaos, President Bush sent 'Condi' to Kenya to 'quell' the stand-off between Raila Odinga and Mwai Kibaki. Fact: Did you know that in the US diplomatic rankings, a President has no equal?

And, as Prof Philip Nyinguro teaches students of political science at UoN, our Uhuru is not equal to President Barack Obama, but to the American ambassador here! Therefore, when she came to broker the peace deal that ushered in the National Accord, Moses Wetang'ula, then Foreign Affairs Minister, thought US Secretary of State Condoleeza Rice, was an equal. They were both in 'foreign affairs,' right? Wrong. 'Condi's handlers threw out 'Weta' and not even Kalonzo Musyoka, the 'veep', was spared!

In her book, No Higher Honor: A memoir of My Years in Washington, 'Condi' describes retired President 'Obako' as a 'stubborn old man' who 'seemed to go into and out of focus during power-sharing negotiations' while Raila 'Agwash' was the exact opposite, 'focused and clear.'

Although UN secretary general Kofi Annan, and Tanzania President Jakaya Kikwete helped in the negotiations, Condi notes in No Higher Honor, that 'the talks of forming a coalition government were smoothed through 'useful back channels' involving Mr Uhuru Kenyatta and Dr Sally Kosgei. Uhuru's sister attended Stanford University while Dr Kosgei was 'Condi's student there!
