Stranger’s gift of seven kittens sparks bomb scare in Umoja

By By PKEMOI NGENOH | July 26th 2013

A suspicious carton sparked panic in Umoja estate after residents woke up to find it outside a popular shop.

An unidentified man was seen placing it on the ground near the shop before fleeing.

“I thought it was the owner of that shop but when it was not picked by anyone, I alerted the nearby shopkeepers lest the carton box carried some dangerous weapons,” said a businessman.

Onlookers and police watched from a distance fearing it was a bomb.

But the police did not call the bomb squad.

It was not until a young man opened the carton only to find seven kittens.

The officers then left the scene quietly as residents took the kittens away.
