Police in Baringo county are investigating an incident in which a 38-year-old man's body was found decapitated and dumped in a forest.

On Saturday, the torso of James Kiprop was discovered in Eldama Ravine's Narasha forest.

County Police Commander Joseph Ongaya said the body was discovered after his brother informed the police that he had information that it had been dumped in the forest.

Ongaya said the man went missing on December 31, last year, around 6pm, with a close friend who has yet to be found.

"The deceased was missing for about a week before his headless body was discovered on Saturday with his arms chopped off and parts of his stomach dismantled," he said.

The head has yet to be found.

Ongaya said they have recorded statements related to the incidents and have positive leads that will aid in their investigations.

Police are attempting to locate the friend's phone, which has since been turned off and would be turned on for a few minutes, making it difficult to register its location.

"For the time being, we are attempting to determine whether the friend is still alive and hiding or if he is a victim; we are still tracing his phone in order to solve the case," Ongaya said.

The location where the deceased's body was discovered was a place where illicit brew was brewed and where the deceased would frequent.

The deceased's body has been transported to Eldama Ravine Mortuary for preservation and postmortem examination.
