Police probe killing of woman shot dead in front of her home in Kuria

Police in Migori County have launched investigations into the death of a 47-year-old woman who was shot dead in front of her gate by unknown people in Getong'anya area in Kuria West sub-County.

According to police reports, the woman had gone to the market on Friday evening and upon returning to her home at 7:30 pm, unknown people ambushed her outside her gate and shot her in the head.

Esther Rioba died on the spot following the attack. The assailants, however, did not steal anything from her.

Kuria West sub-County police commander Cleti Kimaiyo said they had intensified investigations to unearth the people behind the gruesome murder.

It was further established that she had a deep-cut wound on her forehead.

"We are yet to establish the motive of the killing since they did not steal anything from her," Mr Kimaiyo said.

According to the Kuria West police boss who said they have launched investigations into the matter, the woman had sometimes back reported receiving threats from people known to her.

"Because the people who were threatening her are known, that will be key in our investigations," Kimaiyo said.
