Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has called on Kenyans to support President William Ruto as he makes efforts to steer the country to the path of economic recovery.

Gachagua, who spoke at Moi stadium in Embu County where he joined his boss in celebrations to mark this year's Madaeraka Day celebrations, also called on Kenyans to support the government's measures to manage public debt and finance the recurrent expenditure.

He said the Kenya Kwanza administration is moving in the right direction as it implements its manifesto to restore the country's economy.

"Even as we mark the celebrations, I am here to urge all Kenyans to allow our President an opportunity to steer this country back to economic prosperity. Our economy is in a bad state. He has a grand plan and if given a chance he will deliver," Gachagua said.

He urged leaders to support the government's legislative measures in both Houses, the call coming as the President is hoping to push through the proposed Finance Bill, 2023, amid stiff opposition, especially because of the levy meant to finance the affordable housing fund.

"We want to urge our leaders to continue supporting all the legislative measures that the government has proposed in the National Assembly to allow Kenya to get away from public debt and fund our own development," the DP said.
