Constituencies suffering from unfair resource allocation - Manyatta MP

Manyatta MP Gitonga Mukunji has reiterated that National resources distribution must be pegged on population to ensure there is fair distribution in constituencies like Manyatta that have a high population.

Speaking during the distribution of bursaries to students in Universities, TVETs and Colleges, Mukunji noted constituencies in the Central region were struggling due to the high population as compared to other parts of the country.

"This Parliament must achieve fairness in the distribution of government resources, why punish a constituency like Manyatta by ensuring another Constituency enjoys more money," Mukunji observed.

He further noted that some constituencies were sponsoring students to go abroad using constituency funds, while in Central Kenya MPs are struggling to pay for primary school pupils.

The MP encouraged parents to take their children for technical courses saying this will offer them the needed skills for a creative economy that will spur development.

He presented Sh14 million to 1,894 students, where 64 total orphans received Sh10,000 each, 244 Partial orphans received Sh8,000, 534 students from single parents received Sh7,000, 306 very needy students each got Sh6000 and 678 needy students category Sh4,000.

Embu North Deputy County Commissioner William Owino revealed that some students go the extra mile to lie in order to qualify for bursaries while warning students to be honest and stop 'Killing' Parents on paperwork.

"Let us be honest at all times, and I am warning those applicants lying on bursary applications that their parents are dead so they can qualify for the funds," Owino said.
