I am a skincare minimalist

Angela Muiruri is an event host and radio and television presenter. She is also a fashion designer, model and former Miss Kenya USA.

I wear make-up sparingly. For instance, I do not wear any foundation because it clogs my pores so I avoid it unless I am doing a fashion show and I have to be on stage looking the part.

On a day to day basis, I use Constance Carroll compact powder which is locally available in beauty shops. I love it because it doesn’t feel heavy or harsh on my skin. I then use a little eyebrow pencil and black eyeliner by Golden Rose. Love them because they are really smooth.

Thankfully, I have not had acne so far which could be the reason I am not very keen on a daily skin care routine or taking care of my face as much as I should. However, as often as I can, I use Aveeno Positively Radiant face wash and Aveeno Ultra-Calming Foaming Cleanser, especially if I had make-up on during the day.

Admittedly, I take care of my hair a lot more than I do my skin. My hair is my crown. I have grown to love the Cantu line of hair products. I particularly love the Shea Butter Leave-In Conditioning Repair Cream and Dry Deny Moisture Seal Gel Oil because they keep my hair soft, shiny and healthy. I love Aunt Jackie’s line specifically the Curl la la, which defines my curls and Quench, a moisture intensive leave-in conditioner. I use heat on my hair but I keep it minimal and I often use leave-in conditioner to lock in the moisture.

Two products I use and love on my skin and hair are natural unadulterated castor oiland the raw Ghanaian Shea butter. My skin is already oily so I like to keep my maintenance and care as natural as can be.

My new favourite fragrance is Good Girl by Carolina Herrera. It is fierce and fresh and before I discovered it, Eros by Versace was my holy grail. It is very unique and not many wear it. I also use body splashes, especially the floral scents. My current favourites are Forever Red and A Thousand Wishes both by Bath and Body Works.

I have no dietary restrictions but I know I cannot do too many eggs because then my skin could breakout. I also try take at least a litre of water daily though I struggle a little with that. I have a high metabolism so I do not work out but I keep active by power walking as I do my daily errands. I recently started playing basketball with my friends on Sundays which I really enjoy because it has always been my favorite sport.

I am obsessed with my nails and do them myself at home, or during my Uber ride to an event. If I could, I would paint my nails every day to match my outfit. I cannot stand chipped nail polish though. I own too many nail polishes to count and have every colour of the rainbow and at least four of its variations.
