By Michael Chepkwony | October 22nd 2019

Kenya’s country music maestro Sir Elvis Otieno has won the Best Male Vocalist of the year award in an intense competition at Jefferson town in Texas, US.

The revered performer bagged the prize during the sixth annual Texas Sounds International Country Music festival concluded on Sunday.

The festival is held annually by the East Texas Performing Arts, a non-profit organization that is also credited for producing Broadway musicals, dramas, and comedies.

After the announcement of his win, the baritone voice singer took to social media to thank all his Kenyan fan for their immense support that saw him earn the accolades.

''I am so excited and humbled to announce that the award for the Best Male vocalist of the year is home. Thank you everyone for the love and support. You played a major role in making this dream come true. We just got started, expect more of this,'' he wrote on his social media pages.

The competition was between several internationally acclaimed performers from other countries including Denmark, Austria, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Denmark, South Africa, Spain, Mexico, the US and the United Kingdom.

The victory of ‘El Capitan Elvis’ comes true to the predictions made by his supporters in the recent past as he prepared for the contest.

Hundreds of revelers turned up every Wednesday at Galileo Lounge in Westlands, Nairobi to watch as the African King of Country music performed as he prepared for the October 17-20 competition.

After the win, Catherine Ndonye of KBC English Service ‘Sundowner’ show host boasted of her prediction on Sir Elvis win.

“I told you. He is the best we have, I knew it,” she told this writer.

Ndonye said the artist has the most original voice that sounded exactly like the original singers of country songs.

His Deejay, Pierre Kinyua had painted him as the greatest country singer with a class of his own.
