Barely 24 hours after the nominees for the forthcoming KISIMA Awards were unveiled; one of the record stables whose songs have been nominated for an award has opted out.

In a terse press release sent to various media houses and which they later posted on their Facebook page, Grandpa Records thanked their fans for ‘awarding’ them by making Maswali ya Polisi the No.1 song in the country and promise to give out more.

The statement then went on to state “We as Grandpa Records hereby withdraw our participation from the upcoming Kisima Awards, and request that the nominations we have received for Grandpa Family and DNA be removed”.

When contacted for comment, Grandpa Records’ CEO, Refigah said that they did not want to be considered because “our fans have already recognized us, by keeping Maswali ya Polisi on airplay and with numerous tours across the country.” He did not elaborate further.

Two of Grandpa Records’ songs had been nominated in the Boomba Artiste/Group of the Year category, namely Fimbo ya Kwanza by Grandpa Family and DNA’s Maswali ya Polisi.
