Former Sports Cabinet Secretary Rashid Echesa has blamed the "underdevelopment" in Luhyaland on Raila Odinga.

Speaking in Kakamega town on Monday, the politician said that most companies that have long been a source of income for the people of Western Region have collapsed or are in their deathbed because of the region's support for the opposition leader.

"We are tired of gambling with the lives of our people, we have supported him more than enough without any returns. He promised you that he was taking you to a land of milk and honey only for him to join his foes,” he added.

Echesa remained coy on his support for Deputy President William Ruto saying that his support will only be guaranteed if the DP assures that they (Luhyas) will have a bigger stake in his government.

He also challenged the President to prove to Luhyas that he had their best interests at heart by helping Amani National Congress leader Musalia Mudavadi to secure a leadership position.

He said just the same way the President helped Raila and Kalonzo to secure leadership positions in the continent, so should he for Musalia.

"Kisumu and Kakamega are worlds apart in terms of development. Raila has not brought any change for us here. In Kisumu there is an airport, investors flock there.”

"We have supported him all these years to the extent of rejecting our own (Mudavadi),” he added.
