Mathew Kisorio and France Half Marathon winner Jepchirchir win Family Bank Half Marathon

Mathew Kisorio and France Half Marathon winner Peris Jepchirchir won the men and women’s races during the eighth edition of Family Bank Half Marathon in Eldoret yesterday.

Kisorio, who just returned from two-year doping ban, won the competitive race in 1:3.17 followed by  Daniel Kosgei who clocked 1:13.22 while Dan Keitany finished in third in 1:13.41 respectively.

Others to appear in top 10 are Amos Kiplagat at 1:14.20, Barnabas Kosgei (1:14:21), Erick Lagat (1:14.25) and Festus Cheboi (1:14.28), Simon Kirui (1:14.29), Andrew Kosgei (1:14.32) and Daniel Kiptoo (1:14:49) closed the top 10 winners.

Speaking after the race, Kisorio told FeverPitch:  “This race was one of the toughest, compared to even  international races worldwide. I really trained hard for this race because I have a target as I prepare for other events in and outside the country.”

In the women’s category, Peris Jepchirchir emerged the winner in 1:13.43 minutes while defending champion Mercy Kibarus came second in 1:15.21.

Valery Ayabei finished third in 1:15.35 while Faith Jeruto finished fifth in 1:15:51 ahead of Sally Korir who clocked 1:16.11 to finish sixth.
Mercy Chemutai settled seventh in 1:17.14, Monicah Chepkurgat (1:17.15), Betty Wilson (1:17.26) and Pamela Kosgei closed the top ten list in 1:17.33.

The two ran shoulder to shoulder from the start until after four kilometres when Jepchirchir pulled over to outpace Kibarus to carry the day.

“I noticed that we were only two left in front and I decided to increase my pace and break away from Kibarus to win the race,” Jepchirchir.

The winners took home Sh200,000 each while the other top 10 winners received various awards from Family Bank.

The event was graced by the founder of the Bank TK Muya, chairman Wilfred Kiboro, Branch Manager Jane Gathuya, Uasin Gishu Governor Jackson Mandago, AK President Isaiah Kiplagat, AK officials from Central Rift like Benjamin Limo, Abraham Mutai and Moses Tanui.
