Millers NCPB and Nairobi Waters hold tight grip on to win in handball

Black Mamba claimed a third consecutive title at the Male's Handball Championship after overcoming Ulinzi in the final at Nyayo National Stadium.

 This was a big tournament after the Covid-19 pandemic shutdown.

The senior men’s handball tournament which saw both teams came through tight semi-finals two days ago at county levels and subsequent play offs.

Black Mamba enjoyed a more straightforward match in the final as they held their opponent and stormed to half-time with a 17-17 neck to neck tie.

Ulinzi were unable to close the gap in the second half and gave Black Mamba a chance to seal a 31-30 victory to retain their third position federation title.

Black Mamba a head start with 30 points from 17 matches and needed a win for the third position.

Black Mamba and Ulinzi were joined on the podium at the national Championships by Strathmore University and National Cereals and Produce Board in the medal bracket.

Strathmore University and National Cereals and Produce Board had sealed the top two positions leaving the two to fight for the bronze medal.

NCPB comfortably overcame Strathmore University in the first and second-place playoff, while Ulinzi lost to the Strathmore University. NCPB went home with accumulative 34 points recording only one loss out of the 18 games played.

Strathmore University settled on the second place with 2 points down the NCPB while Black Mamba settled with 32 points, with GSU and Ulinzi coming fourth and fifthy position respectively.

In the women's league, Nairobi Water Queens won after winning all their 14 games leading the table log with 28 points.

 The second-placed Ulinzi Sharks with 4 points down the winners after 14 games losing 2 games while the third place went to the milllers, National Cerials and Produce Baord settled on the third position with only 9 wins and ten points down the winners.

Nanyuki Ladies came fourth while Kenyatta University wrapped the top five time on the log. This season was a significant moment in handball history as it infused fresh air to the sport which showed immense potential at grass root level.

The league which brought together exciting competition among the players as well as help build handball as a brand.
