Who is the big man in the Madaraka Day celebrations?

The fights that have been witnessed in the recent past between the two top political parties are uncalled for and to put it in another version, it is a fight for personal gains and especially in the side of the CORD family.

The first call for dialogue by the CORD was not as serious as the President considered it, his invitation to the CORD family to have a cup of tea over the same issue was ultimately rejected. The second call by the same individuals over the IEBC issue has also been rejected by the President with view that he has no power to have the fellows sent home. The streets protests that have been witnessed in the past few weeks by the CORD people have seen people loose life and lots of property destroyed.

Who in the end suffers is the question that seems to escape the minds of these folks and a matter of fact; they seemed to forget that they are setting history that may never have been written off just like that. The CORD family is composed of great lawyers who know the constitution very well. Some who even helped in the shaping of the same and they should know how and when to apply which clause and at what time.

The street protests by the CORD is a sign that they already are determined to have their way in the forth-coming general elections and just like anyone with a good memory, the signs of the 2007/08 post-election violence is in the kitchen and whether one agrees or not, it will be worse than ever before.

The Jubilee on the other hand boast of the tyranny of numbers but this has always and continues to be the tool to have their own issues addressed and never the issues that affect the common man in this land like the rising cost of living.

The Madaraka Day Celebrations has been a show down to see who really is the big man and who has a say and who has a way, the ultimate goal. Selfish gains as always. The CORD team has nothing to show Kenyans of what they have done as the opposition for the last four years and how they have tried to propagate their own agendas for the benefit of themselves alone.

The politicians from the CORD side claim to want the President himself to open his mouth and agree to sit down for a dialogue. When will CORD individuals think beyond their own selfish gains and really see what the common Kenyan is going through?

Presidency is not a matter of tribe or race, being born into any tribe does not qualify one to be a president and all of us can never be presidents. We agree to disagree but it should be on issues that squarely affect the livelihood of the residents and the people of Kenya, and never personal gains and trying to fix the constitution to fit some individuals.

As Kenyans, we should rise beyond our tribes and ask for what is rightly ours as mentioned and as indicated in the constitution, then will we be liberated, up to then, the political leaders and especially the CORD fraternity should not take Kenyans for granted.
