A water company has secured Sh150 million from World Bank to facilitate expansion of its distribution in Mathioya Constituency.

Gatamathi Water Company plans to fast-track distribution of water to more than 3,200 homes in Mathioya and parts of Kiharu.

Tana Water Services Board Chair Peter Kimari (pictured) said the facilitation will fast track water distribution network for Gatango water project.

Speaking at Kiria-ini Catholic Church, Kimari said a team of engineers will visit Hembe Water intake with a view to expand it so as to boost production of more water to serve the community.

Kimari had accompanied Kigumo MP Jamleck Kamau for a church fundraiser. He said the water board in charge of water companies in Mt Kenya region was geared towards distributing clean water to all residents.

Gatango water project was established in 1970’s to serve parts of Mathioya. The management of the water company has also been targeting to distribute water to parts of Gaturi ward in Kiharu. Gatamathi Water Company chair Washington Maina said the financial facilitation will help boost water distribution network and enhance service delivery.

Exhorting bribes

Meanwhile at the same function, taxis and boda boda operators accused police of harassing and intimidating them by exhorting bribes.

The operators said traffic police were arresting them but failing to prosecute them as they demand bribes. Failing to pay leads to their vehicles and motor cycles confiscated.

Kimari said the matter on harassment will be communicated to the Inspector General of Police.

“This matter had been raised and it’s a shame that it has been reported again, thus a need for action from the higher authorities,” he said.
