Moses Wetang'ula: I'll clinch CORD ticket for 2017

CORD co-principal Moses Wetang'ula has expressed confidence he will win the coalition's presidential nomination ahead of next year's General Election.

Mr Wetang'ula reassured his supporters that he would beat co-principals Raila Odinga and Kalonzo Musyoka and told President Uhuru Kenyatta to expect a bruising battle come the 2017 polls.

He said he would not quit CORD and was ready to face off with Odinga and Kalonzo.

The Bungoma senator said he had a big stake in CORD, which he helped to form, and that he had no plans of pulling out to join the ruling coalition.

Speaking in Trans Nzoia County where he was accompanied by MPs Chris Wamalwa (Kiminini), Ferdinand Wanyonyi (Kwanza) and Saboti politician Wafula Mutacho, Wetang'ula said he would fight for the CORD ticket.

He said CORD was intact and there were no cracks as claimed, adding that he had cordial relations with his co-principals.

Wetang'ula said his grand match to State House was unstoppable and asked Uhuru to be ready to hand over power to him if defeated.

"I have weighed myself politically and I am confident that I will outsmart President Uhuru and I expect him to relinquish power because I'm sure of flooring him at the ballot box," he said.

Wetang'ula urged his supporters to register as voters to enable him achieve his political ambitions of occupying State House.

He said the Jubilee leadership lacks the impetus to tackle the challenges facing the country, including runaway corruption and tribalism.

"Jubilee has demonstrated that it belongs to two communities and has failed to tame corruption because the big fish involved in the vice remain untouchable. And when CORD will take over power, we will deal ruthlessly with looters of public coffers," he added.

Dr Wamalwa and Mr Wanyonyi urged ODM leaders to respect Wetang'ula and stop undermining his presidential ambitions.

Mr Mutacho said Wetang'ula is the only leader from Western who is able to marshal support across the country.
