Am a born again Christian: Gospel musician dismisses claims that he sleeps around with fans

“I don’t do that. I’m a born again Christian I’m not allowed to have premarital sex. I respect God, myself and women. Besides I’m too busy to even have time for that. I’m not like that,” says M4J.

As we settle down for the interview, the subject in question is the allegation one Shamirah Joseph raised about the artiste’s extra-curricular activities. Reaching out to Pulse through a Facebook account, she had accused the gospel artiste of sleeping around.

“Hey Pulse Magazine: The only way to get a life! I’m sorry to say this but let Bonnie Owino aka M4J know that sleeping with chics does not make him a better celeb. He should apologise to all the chics before more is revealed. His days are over...” the post read.

According to the gospel artiste, this is not the first time the said Shamirah has accused him of such.

“Last month, the fellow calling himself or herself Shamirah in-boxed a lady friend of mine and she sent screen shots to her with the same accusations. I just told her to ignore (sic). I have also told my fans to ignore the accusations because this has been happening,” said the talented Ngori to Glory singer who is also popular for his last year’s hit Uko Mbali.

“I’m not involved in any sex scandal. I am not even in a relationship with any girl. I respect women and I’m out here to save lives with my ministry; not destroy lives,” he says.

Having had enough of the negative reports, he reported the matter to Facebook and left it at that hoping it would deter Shamirah but that would not be the case.

The Facebook account that was last updated in December last year had the user posting strange comments of a sexual nature including one to M4J’s ‘women’, which stated; “To all M4J bit**es, peace am not done with you...”

“But who and why would anyone go out of their way to do this to him?” we ask.

“I suspect it’s someone I had an issue with or a hater who is not happy with my achievements. For gospel artistes it’s such sex scandals that bring them down,” he remarks.

All this he says started with a message, which he thought was from a fan until it took a different nature. After that he blocked them.

“I did it after she started flirting and at one point told me that she wanted to sleep with me. I told her that I am not interested with sex so the whole sex story is just created to put me down. It wasn’t me. This is someone who doesn’t have good intentions. I was to track her account but someone told me to ignore (her),” M4J notes.

Growing up in Mathare, the 22-year-old who saw the rise of Bahati, Mr Seed and Deno just to name a few has been through hell. No bad report seems to weigh him down. He has seen it all.

“The ten of us lived in a single room near Mathare river and at one point our house got swept away by the river. Before then, it had burnt down twice. I used to sleep on the floor in church after the fire incident and at one point I was forced to leave the church because the watchman who used to know me was changed,” M4J narrates his harsh upbringing.

After turning to God, he rededicated his life and released his first song under J Blessing in 2012 called Uko Mbali. That got his career rolling. With five released songs, it has not been an easy journey for the young artiste who to date supports his family financially. “Challenges including the latest are so many but I have friends who challenge me, I pray a lot and I am very dedicated and passionate about music. Recently, I got a lot of criticism from people because I did a gospel cover for Diamond’s Utanipenda. Besides, life goes on,” he concludes.
