Social media bullies: Why you need to grow up

Change is inevitable. Thus, as humanity, we appreciate the brains behind social media because it has not only changed the way we relate with people but also how we perceive each other as beings.

The cons are incommensurable but we cannot play ostrich and bury our heads in the sand when it comes to a clique of twisted adults with the mentality of nursery school bullies.

Social media bullying is one of the highest triggers of suicide globally. In Kenya, many a times, we have watched helplessly as sadists assassinate other peoples’ character with virulent harsh tags, blog posts, updates and comments.

You think it is funny for a bunch of strangers to pick on you, malign, insult and savage you like a pack of mongrels? Who made some of you God, Jesus and the Holy Spirit all rolled up in one?

It is not surprising that most victims of social media goons are women and that they are often picked on by pseudo men, a clique who are chauvinistic, twisted and a downright shame on masculinity.

When a top corporate CEO got married recently, the bile and hatred unleashed towards his wife was appalling. People wasted their bundles to dig up on her past and some were literally missing sleep over someone else’s life. Who bewitched this lot?

When rumours went round that a TV siren was headed for divorce, the key board bandits were at it again. Man! These people come up with the meanest of things, coupled with sickening myopia and tribalism. One literally gets nauseated reading their drivel.

Personally, I have been a victim of social media bullying but I am not going to end my life or get my blood sugar up because of the inconsequential opinions of some poorly brought up fellows who get kicks from insulting and antagonising others.

This is what I have observed: Most of these bullies write good grammar, implying they are educated people. However, most of them are functionally illiterate. They ‘passed’ through school hence the good grammar but still reason like retards. Education is principally meant to make people fit in society, teach them to argue, not shout but wapi!

An ‘educated’ blogger soliciting for traffic by besmirching other people is no different from a village night runner who gets a kick from smearing his poop on people’s doors at night. It shows how low you are as a person. When you get personal, trivial and petty and ooze of negativity all the time, your know-it-all attitude reflects a numbing inferiority complex.

You are not bold, fierce, audacious or daring. You are a stupid, poorly brought up scoundrel. Most of the people you hate on social media are better than you in almost every spectrum. Your type never hates on nonentities, you hate on people you envy because you know you will never be like them.

Do not pour your life’s frustration on other people; do not force people to take responsibility for your inability to think and behave like a grown person in a civilised world. We sure are a developing Country but we are civilised right? Act like it. You are cowards who cannot face anybody with the balderdash you spew and hide behind key boards to bring others down to your levels. Seek help.

It will cost you nothing to use social media constructively. Social media can be used to stir positivity in the society, not to bully people. We can use it to name and shame the ills in our society, make friends, acquaintances, do business and just portray a little positivity instead of the bigotry, misogyny and tribalism that has engulfed us.

If you are a victim, I know it hurts to be judged and insulted by strangers who do not really know the true picture of the situation they are blubbering over. Relax and treat what they say with the contempt it deserves. Do not let what people say get to you. And unless there is a strong need for the same, do not engage, retaliate or even address them. Treat them as scum.

To quote Wambui Collymore: “We have real life and life seen in Public. Life will not be lived online, but in the great world of reality outside.”
