Excitement and shocks in boxing league bouts

Excitement and shock marked the national Sportpesa boxing league, which entered its third day and final stage yesterday at the Modern Fitness Boxing Lounge, Mombasa.

Kenya Defence Force remained on course to win the first leg after entering four boxers in the fina. Omar Kasongo Sports Academy also had four boxers.

Defending champions Kenya Police boxers secured only three places in the final.

Prisons and hosts Coast had two boxers in the final. National team boxer Elly Ajowi of Kenya Police advanced to the final of heavyweight contest after defeating Kentrack’s Bernard Okul 3-0.

In light heavy, Hezron Maganga of KDF set the ball rolling by a technical knockout on Thika’s Kennedy Ogutu in the third round and was set to meet Police’s Humphrey Ochieng in the final who hit Julius Atito of Prisons 3-0 in the semi-final.

In super heavy, KDF’s Victor Ombok beat Police’s Kimathi Kinoti 3-0 while Duncan Ochanda of Kibera stopped Police’s Omar Miraj in a light welter weight bout.

Edwin Okongo of KDF made it to the final after silencing Kentrack’s George Bwire via a knock out.
