Manchester United stars label Louis van Gaal 'clueless'

Manchester United players reportedly turned on Louis van Gaal following the Red Devils' 3-0 humbling at Tottenham on Sunday.

Some Red Devils stars allegedly labelled the Dutchman 'clueless' for his tactical decisions, particularly his treatment of 18-year-old hotshot Marcus Rashford .

The striker was brought off at half-time for apparently seeking the ball in wide areas with too much regularity.

However, instead of playing natural forward Anthony Martial in a central role, he brought on winger Ashley Young to play through the middle.

A source told The Sun: “They blamed it all on the manager. You could hear everything. They don’t seem to have much time for him.”

United players are also reportedly becoming increasingly frustrated with Van Gaal for tending to lay the blame at the door of the players for defeats.

Second-half goals from Dele Alli, Toby Alderweireld and Erik Lamela earned victory for Spurs and left United four points behind Manchester City in the race for the top four.

Van Gaal remains under huge pressure to keep his job at Old Trafford into next season, with rumours abound he could return to Ajax as head of youth academy.

Jose Mourinho continues to be the front-runner to succeed the Dutchman, should he leave his post at the end of the current campaign.

On the defeat at Tottenham, Van Gaal blamed his defence for the nightmare six-minute period which saw Spurs score all three of their goals.

"The miscommunication in our centre defence turned the match, I think," he said.

"And the second goal was also a goal in a set-play.

"Alderweireld scored and we knew in advance he is a dangerous header, so everything was well organised but he had a wonderful header, and within five minutes they scored the third goal and the game's over."
