University of Nairobi student leaders should be investigated over drug abuse and sale, an official said yesterday.
National Authority for Campaign against Alcohol and Drug Abuse (Nacada) Chairman John Mututho said selling of drugs was rife at the university, which was closed down last week following two days of student unrest.
The calls come barely a week after Inspector General of Police Joseph Boinett directed that Mututho records a statement with police over his allegations.
But despite the directive, Mututho noted that Government agencies had all the information and wondered why no action had been taken.
“As Nacada, we have done our part and are worried that no action has been taken against the people involved,” he said.
He also took issue with pictures doing the rounds in social media showing Sonu Chair Babu Owino holding a gun and a briefcase with cash in dollars. He challenged the police, the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission and the Central Bank of Kenya to investigate the source of the cash and the gun.
“We have seen this student leader issuing cash to students during elections and it’s sad that no Government body has moved in to investigate the matter,” he said.
