Mombasa County expects Sh3 billion revenue due to services automation

MOMBASA, KENYA: Mombasa county government has projected that its local revenue collection will rise to Sh3 billion at the end of this financial year from Sh2.4 billion in the 2014/2015 financial year following the automation of its single business permit.
County secretary Francis Thoya said that the automation of single business permit, construction services and enhanced enforcement of regulations initiated last year is expect to propel the Coastal County’s growth.

Thoya said since the single business permit was placed on electronic platform in December last year, about Sh373 million has been collected exceeding revenues collected during the same period last year by Sh6.4 million.
He spoke at his office during a visit by officials from Kisumu County and the World Bank on a bench-marking mission on the e-construction and single business permits.
"The introduction of electronic processes in construction and single business permits and enhanced enforcement has improved our revenue collection. Our revenue target this year is Sh3 billion as compared to Sh2.4 billion last year," said Mr Thoya. The single business platform aims to automate 70,000 businesses in the county.
