Pregnant woman accused of killing husband in Mombasa freed on bond

A pregnant woman charged with stabbing her husband to death in Mombasa has been freed on bond.

Pauline Gitonga Mukiri was arrested on February 28 and taken to Shimo la Tewa Prison.

She was charged with murdering her husband, Allois Matata Mayoli, on February 27 at Bamburi in Kisauni.

Mukiri denied the charges before Chief Magistrate Susan Shitubi and was released on bond.

“The accused is released on her own bond of Sh500, 000 with one surety and the file shall be determined if it is to be transferred from Shanzu Law Courts,” said Shitubi.

It is alleged that Mukiri busted her husband with another woman in a local bar and this led to a misunderstanding that degenerated into violence.

Police said the two went home but got into a fight that led to the death of the husband.

The court had ordered she be taken to the High Court on March 16 to be charged with murder. The case will be heard on April 12.
