Jurgen Klopp has 'no problem' with Christian Benteke

Jurgen Klopp has played down reports of a rift between him and striker Christian Benteke after the Belgian claimed the Reds boss 'ignores him'.

The 25-year-old will sit out of Saturday’s Premier League clash with Tottenham at Anfield, and is also likely to miss out on a place in the side for Thursday's Europa League clash with Borussia Dortmund.

Results of a scan on his knee will give Liverpool a better idea of a likely return date amid fears he will be sidelined for up to a month with knee ligament damage, reports the Liverpool Echo.

The problem forced Benteke to drop out of the Belgium squad last week but only after he had voiced his frustrations to media in his homeland.

Benteke, who has started just one league game since the turn of the year, said he found it difficult to understand why Klopp “ignores him” and bemoaned being reduced to a bench warmer.

The 25-year-old faces an uncertain future with West Ham having already declared their interest in signing him this summer.

However, there were no showdown talks on Benteke’s return to Melwood. Klopp says he’s relaxed about the striker’s comments and is simply focused on trying to get him back fit as soon as possible.

“Maybe I should have spoken to him but it really isn’t important because when he came back he was injured and now that’s much more important,” Klopp said.

“I have no problems with players who are not satisfied when they don’t play. It’s always the same answer – it’s up to the player to change the situation. For it’s easy to react to things like this.
