Thank me for marrying a smart wife— Nyatike MP

Nyatike MP Edick Anyanga  with his wife

Nyatike MP Edick Anyanga has told his constituents to thank him for marrying a smart woman.

Anyanga, who is seeking a second term in 2017, was campaigning for his wife, businesswoman Anne Omodho,  who is eyeing the Migori gubernatorial seat for the second time after losing to Zachary Okoth Obado in 2013.

Anne was the running mate to Prof Edward Oyugi on an ODM ticket — both lost to Obado who ran on a PDP (People’s Democratic Party) ticket. Some quarters have however critcised the move by the Anyangas to run for governor and MP respectively.

“Telo ok nyal umore e onget achiel (power cannot be under the same blanket),” some have argued. Anyanga however asked the people to thank him for marrying a brilliant woman who was among the very few to run for the governor’s seat.

“The people of Nyatike also deserve the leadership mantle, for we are the Tharaka Nithi of Migori County. That is why all the male aspirants have been trying to get me to convince my wife not to vie because they fear that with the support of Nyatike, her battle is half won.”

Anyanga was in the news in 2015 when he was attacked in his Karen home, followed by several reported cases of attempts on his life.
